Shores Community Pantry is a social supermarket supporting those encountering poverty and hardship in the South East Holderness Community by providing affordable food and produce
The Southern Holderness Resource Centre, ( more commonly known as the Shores Centre) is recognised a key community hub throughout the South East Holderness community. As a charity serving the area for over 15 years, we have extensive experience of supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals by providing a wide range services, resources and facilities that positively contribute to health , economic development, enterprise, employment, financial and social inclusion.
As a community hub we have operated a foodbank for over 5 years, during recent months due to COVID 19 the demand on this service has been huge, and now as lockdown measures ease, we are now seeing a demand on services due to the increase in poverty that is impacting our community.
What we are seeking to develop is a social supermarket on the high street that local residents can access and get more value for money produce that will ease their financial burdens
Local residents will be eligible to become members ( subject to proof of identity) with individuals that are in financial hardship/ poverty line receiving discounts on purchases. This reduces risks of stigma associated with accessing the shop
Sadly in times of recession and hardship resources like this are essential for the community, and generate significant customer footfall and income, due to the financial restrictions that communities/residents face with the impacts of increased poverty
