Maxlife Youth Project

Maxlife- A year of variety

It's time to add a bit of variety back into our lives! And this project is the way to do it! A full year of variety arts to get tucked into; acting, singing, writing, creating poetry, camera work, backstage work, hula hooping. We have the lot! And did I mention we'll be doing it all year long!

Maxlife Youth Project provides activities and events for children and young people, their families and the wider community in the local area, which has high levels of deprivation. Our Mission Statement is to ‘Improve the quality of life for young people by providing opportunities for social, physical and mental development and so empowering them to mature as responsible and caring members of the community.’ Maxlife has worked at a grassroots level for 15 years and our work is defined by the needs of young people, their families and communities. The project has reacted to changing needs and has provided a varied programme to meet those needs. Including to those identified as ‘hardest to reach’.

The aim of this project is to give young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 for SEN) a full year of varied activities around the arts to get involved in for free. Through connections we have made through previous projects, we have access to services that will provide workshops around:

  • Dance
  • Acting
  • Singing
  • Camera Work
  • Backstage maintenance
  • Creative writing, including poetry
  • hula hooping skills

The project will consist of a unique 3 hour workshop, individual to all of our other sessions, once a week. The session will be run by 2 members of our Maxlife team and well as having a specialist from an outside organisation running the workshop. The specialist will vary depending on which workshop is running that week. A project in the arts is critical in these times as access to such art projects is not only limited and costly, but also plays a significant role in how young people see and interact with others and in the world in general. The Arts helps us emotionally and psychologically and can help shape individual and collective personality and with the world in disarray people, especially young people, need the arts more than ever.

We will evaluate these sessions with our monitoring feedback forms that we have used in previous projects and have shown to be a great success in planning future projects. The results we are hoping to see from this project are a boost in moral for the young people in our area, as well as a sparked interest in not only doing performing arts for fun, but to also have a career in the industry moving forward. We want people to remember this year for the right reasons, such as having fun, reintegrating with lost friends, and finding new hidden talents that they didn't know they had, and not for the sombre news they hear on the television every night.
