Improving outreach

We have a website that costs us just over £100 a year but with the need to communicate faster and more efficiently we need to imporve our service and hosting providers. Also due to no longer being able to hold face-to-face meetings we need to offer a support line via telephone communication.

The Hull and East Yorkshire ME/CFS Self Help Group historically had a successful run of 60-100 supporters, but the way we communicate has changed and we have lost contact with many of these members - even more so now especially when we can no longer hold a face to face meeting with more than 6 members.

ME/CFS is an "hour-by-hour" conditon and although someone may feel they can host or attend a meeting in the morning by afternoon they may well be too ill and so have to cancel.  This then falls heavily on  another individual who also has the condition,  putting them at risk of becaome fatigued and ill.  Volunteering for such a help group can be very draining and unpredictable, making volunteers feel unreliable.

If we could improve our remote access to this community, we know preivous members would be able to return, and new members attracted to join us. Updating the website regularly, replying to messages or making a telephone call here and there, would be more time effective then having to leave the home, travel and use whatever energy is left to participate and return home again.

Since Covid 19 there has been a rise in Post Viral conditions, much like those that are symptomatic of ME/CFS.  Individuals struggling with the chronic after-effects of contracting Covid are finding it difficult to access support from the medical establishment - the kind of support that our group may be able to provide from our own experience.
