Phase Two of our major refurbishment undertaken over the last two years. We have completed the hall, internally and externally, at a cost of £250,000, Phase One, and also refurbished the kitchen, disabled facilities and changing rooms. Phase Two literally raises the roof on the lower part of the building to create a first floor to house a pre-school, function room and large and small rooms which can be used for meetings, private tuition, consultations etc. A lift will enable access to all, and introduction of seven windows make a pleasant environment. The whole will be finished externally to match the new hall with modern insulation, cladding and cedar panels.
Bubwith Leisure and Sports Centre is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in an East Yorkshire village which acts as a centre for the surrounding countryside and smaller settlements. The land of around six acres was left to the village in 1951 and has been administered by a series of trustees ever since. The Leisure Centre building is thirty years old replacing an old wooden sports pavilion. It is of portal frame construction, badly insulated by modern standards and of very dated appearance. The larger part, the hall, has now been fully refurbished in modern materials with excellent insulation and internal fit-out including a sound system, acoustic panelling and modern LED lighting. It was recently opened by Harry Gration of BBC's Look North who described it as A-MAZ-ING.
The remainder of the building comprises a ground floor with lounge and bar, kitchen and disabled toilet, all of which have been greatly improved. The sports changing rooms have also had a minor refit, the main toilets badly need renewing. It is the upstairs to which we would like to draw attention. At present there is a single room running under the apex occupying only a third of the floor area as the remainder, under the eaves, is too low for use. It is currently in high demand as it is used during the day by our village pre-school, and in the evenings by various classes and as a rehearsal room for our swing band. Consequently pre-school have to clear away each day, they need a dedicated suite. Raising the roof will treble the floor space available, allow the pre-school its own rooms and create a space for a large function room and medium and small meeting rooms, where the parish councils can meet and treatments, tuition and consultations can take place. Demand for this has all come from existing and potential users, at present the room is inadequately heated in winter, too hot in summer, has no windows and is over-subscribed. The introduction of seven windows and proper insulation and heating control will transform the facilities. We are very keen to include everyone, so propose a proper lift capable of transporting wheelchairs to the upper floor.
We are an enthusiastic team including a practicing architect. We have a professional approach, a proven track record of success, and momentum.
